Configuring your own music on hold or greeting in the FRITZ!Box

Configuring your own music on hold or greeting in the FRITZ!Box

If all phones are busy, the call is put on hold. The caller then hears the music on hold or greeting from the telephone provider. If your provider allows this, this music on hold or greeting is replaced by a greeting from the FRITZ!Box. Instead of the FRITZ!Box greeting, it is also possible to switch on the FRITZ!Box’s preset music on hold, or to configure personal music on hold or a personal greeting.

However, there are a number of conditions and restrictions that must be taken into account:

– The audio file for personal music on hold or greeting cannot be longer than 8 seconds. In some cases, with other FRITZ!Box routers, this limit is 30 seconds.

The audio file must be in one of the following formats:

– MP3 format: fixed data rate, 128 kbit/s, 44.1 kHz, stereo

– WAV format: 8000 Hz, 16-bit, mono

Configure personal music on hold or greetings

Setting up personal music on hold or greeting is very easy:

– In the FRITZ!Box user interface, click on “Telephony” and go to “Telephone Numbers”.

– Press the “Line Settings” tab

– In the “Music on Hold” section, click on the “Change”. If this section is not displayed, please enable Advanced View first. To do this, click on the menu button with the 3 dots at the top right and switch on the advanced view.

– Enable the “Own music” option and select the desired audio file to use personal music on hold or a personal greeting. For music on hold, turn on “Music”, for a personal greeting, turn on “Announcement”.

– Click “OK” to save the settings.

Disable external music on hold

It is also possible that the caller cannot hear the FRITZ!Box’s music on hold. The telephone provider then plays music on hold via the network itself. It is possible to enforce the use of personal music on hold by configuring the FRITZ!Box so that calls are always put on hold in the FRITZ!Box:

– Enter “#960*8*” on the phone and then press the call key. Hang up after about 3 seconds.
